Neomycin Injection

MORVEL NEOSPA (neomycin) is a bactericidal aminoglycoside antibiotic indicated acute and chronic bacterial infections.

General Infections: Treatment of bacterial septicemia (bacteremia), especially involving coliform bacilli.
Respiratory Infections: Including pneumonia, bronchitis, and pleurisy.
Reproductive/Postpartum Infections: Mastitis, metritis (uterine inflammation), and other postpartum complications.
Other Systemic Issues: Peritonitis and secondary bacterial infections associated with viral diseases.

Intramuscular (IM) Injection: This is a common route for systemic treatment when absorption from the gut is a problem.
- Common sites: Muscles along the spine or the large muscle in the back of the leg (caudal thigh muscle) are common sites for injections in pets.
- Procedure: The needle is inserted into the muscle, and the plunger is pulled back (aspirated) to ensure no blood enters the syringe (indicating a blood vessel has been hit). If no blood appears, the medication is injected slowly.
Intravenous (IV) Injection: This method is used for direct entry into the bloodstream and is typically a slow bolus injection. This is most often performed by a veterinary professional in a clinic setting.
Intrauterine Administration: For uterine infections in some livestock species, neomycin may be administered directly into the uterus.
Intramammary Infusion: In dairy cows, it is used in combination with other antibiotics to treat mastitis via infusion into the udder.
