Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) is used to treat Vitamin C deficiency (scurvy), and delayed wound healing in animals.

INDICATIONS

  • Treatment and prevention of Vitamin C deficiency, particularly in species that cannot synthesize it, or in animals where normal production is disrupted (e.g., liver disease in dogs and cats).
  • As a general nutritive supplement to support overall health and recovery from illness or surgery.
  • To facilitate rapid wound and fracture healing and tissue repair.
  • Management of stress conditions (e.g., heat stress in poultry, intensive lactation, or surgery).
  • Supportive therapy during convalescence or in cases of general weakening and exhaustion.

ADMINISTRATION

  • Administration Routes:
    • Intramuscular (IM): The injection is given into a muscle, such as the upper arm or thigh.
    • Subcutaneous (SQ): The injection is given into the fatty layer just under the skin.
    • Intravenous (IV): The injection is given into a vein. For intravenous administration, the product is often warmed to body temperature and must be injected slowly. High-dose IV Vitamin C is often diluted in a suitable infusion solution to make it isotonic, and prevent adverse reactions.
  • Dosage Varies: The dosage and frequency of administration (e.g., daily or a few times a week) depend on the species, body weight, and the condition being treated.
