Vaxxitek HVT+IBD Vaccine

Boehringer's Vaxxitek is the vector backbone against Herpesvirus of Turkeys (HVT) and, in doing so, provides protection against Marek's disease. The HVT vector itself is a live, non-pathogenic turkey herpesvirus. A WVA Veterinary Medicine.

Herpesvirus of Turkeys (HVT) vaccine is indicated for the protection of poultry against viral diseases.

INDICATIONS

  • To prevent mortality and to reduce clinical signs and lesions of Infectious Bursal Disease (standard and variant strains).
  • To reduce mortality, clinical signs, and lesions of Marek’s disease.

ADMINISTRATION

  • Subcutaneous Injection: A single 0.2 mL dose is injected under the loose skin at the back of the neck.
  • In Ovo Injection (Embryonated eggs): A single 0.05 mL dose is injected into each embryonated egg at 18 days of embryonation using an automated egg injection system. The device must be proven to safely and effectively deliver the appropriate dose, and its instructions must be strictly followed.
The vaccine is stored at extremely low temperatures and requires reconstitution with a sterile diluent before administration.
  1. Thawing: Vaccine ampoules are removed from cold storage and thawed quickly in a water bath within a specific temperature range. Safety precautions, including wearing protective gloves and eyewear is recommended due to the potential for ampoule breakage.
  2. Mixing: After thawing, the vaccine concentrate is slowly added to a measured volume of sterile diluent. The ampoule should be rinsed with diluent, and these rinsings are added to the mixture. The appropriate diluent volume is determined by the intended method of administration and the required amount per dose.
  3. Handling: The diluted vaccine should be mixed gently and kept cool. It is important to use the prepared vaccine promptly after mixing, usually within a short timeframe, as the live vaccine suspension is sensitive once diluted.
  4. Equipment: All equipment used for preparing and administering the vaccine must be sterile and free from antiseptics and disinfectants.
