Trueperella Pyogenes Vaccine

Cervid Solutions' Trueperella Pyogenes Vaccine (Arcanobacterium pyogenes), a custom vaccine product, is used to help prevent diseases in cervids (deer and elk) caused by Trueperella pyogenes bacteria, which can lead to abscesses, pneumonia, lumpy jaw, and foot rot. A WVA Veterinary Medicine.

Cervid Solutions’ Trueperella Pyogenes Vaccine (Arcanobacterium pyogenes), a custom vaccine product, is used to to reduce the impact of Trueparella pyogenes by stimulating an immune response.

INDICATIONS

  • Mastitis in dairy cows Vaccination is used in both lactating and dry cows, as well as heifers, to reduce the incidence and severity of this economically important disease.
  • Uterine infections (metritis/endometritis) Subcutaneous vaccination of pregnant dairy heifers has been shown to reduce the incidence of puerperal metritis after calving.
  • Abscesses T. pyogenes is a common cause of abscesses in various tissues and organs, including liver abscesses in feedlot cattle, which is a significant economic problem.
  • Pneumonia The organism can cause pneumonia, often as part of a polymicrobial infection, particularly in swine.

ADMINISTRATION

Administered in a series to pregnant does (50-60 days pre-fawning) for fawn immunity, and boosted seasonally, following strict label directions for dose (usually 2cc), sterile technique. 

  1. Custom & Autogenous: This isn’t a standard commercial vaccine; it’s made from your deer’s specific bacteria, enhancing effectiveness.
  2. Subcutaneous Injection (Sub-Q): Given under the skin, often using specialized dart guns (1/2″ or 3/4″ darts) for wild/free-ranging cervids.
  3. Dosing: Typically 2cc per animal, but always check the label for current instructions, as doses can change.
  4. Vaccination Schedule (Example):
    • Initial Series: Two doses 14-28 days apart for unvaccinated animals.
    • Pregnant Does: Vaccinate 50-60 days before fawning to pass immunity to fawns.
    • Boosters: Fall and Spring boosters (30 days before fawning) for maintenance.
