BU-PRO Gain Buparvaquone Injection

BU-PRO Gain Baquiloprim (buparvaquone) is an antiprotozoal drug used against theileriosis in cattle. Considered the gold standard treatment for tick-borne diseases in endemic regions of Africa, the Middle East, and Southern Europe. A WOAH Veterinary Medicine.

BU-PRO Buparvaquone (baquiloprim) is primarily indicated for the treatment and prevention of tick-transmitted theileriosis in cattle.

INDICATIONS

Buparvaquone is highly effective against all forms of theileriosis caused by various Theileria species (e.g., T. parva, T. annulata, T. orientalis).

  • Theileria parva: The cause of East Coast fever, Corridor disease, and Zimbabwean theileriosis.
  • Theileria annulata: The cause of tropical theileriosis.
  • Theileria orientalis: Also effective against this species.
  • Theileria mutans and Theileria sergenti.
  • Works by inhibiting the parasite’s mitochondrial electron transport chain, which blocks its respiration and energy production, killing both the schizont and piroplasm stages of the parasite.

ADMINISTRATION

  • Typically administered as a single intramuscular injection into the neck muscles.
  • Route: Intramuscular (IM) injection only.
  • Site: The injection should be given deep into a large muscle mass; the neck muscles in cattle are the recommended site. For dogs and cats, it can be injected into the muscles as well.
  • Volume per Site: No more than 10 ml should be injected into a single site. If the required dose exceeds this volume, it should be divided into smaller portions and administered at different, successive injection sites.
  • Severe Cases: In severe or advanced cases, a second treatment may be required 48 to 72 hours after the initial injection, at the same dose rate and a different site.

DOSING

  • In severe or advanced clinical cases, a second injection may be necessary 48 to 72 hours after the initial dose. No more than 10 ml should be injected into a single site.
  • When used early in the course of the disease, it has a high recovery rate (90-98%). It helps the animal survive the acute infection, allowing it time to develop its own protective immunity, though the animal often remains a lifelong carrier.
