Huvepharma’s HuveGuard Plus is a live, attenuated anticoccidial vaccine designed to protect chickens against coccidiosis.

INDICATIONS

  • Target Species: Chickens (especially breeders and layers).
  • Purpose: Active immunization to reduce infection and clinical signs of coccidiosis.
  • Target Parasites: Specifically designed for protection against Eimeria necatrix and Eimeria brunetti.
  • Application: Usually administered at 14 days of age in a split-vaccination program (often following a first-day application of HuveGuard MMAT) to provide comprehensive coverage against major Eimeria species.
  • Precocious Strains: The vaccine contains attenuated (early-cycling) strains of E. necatrix and E. brunetti, which allow for immunity development without causing severe disease.

ADMINISTRATION

  • Coarse Spray on Birds: Administered at one day of age.
    • A dose volume of approximately 24 ml per 100 birds is used (0.24 ml per bird).
    • A coloring agent, such as Brilliant Blue (E133), is added to the diluent at a 0.01% concentration to mark vaccinated birds.
    • Birds should remain in their chick boxes for at least one hour post-spraying in bright light to encourage preening and ingestion of the vaccine droplets.
  • Spray on Feed: Also administered at one day of age.
    • Starter feed for the first 12–24 hours is laid out on paper or plastic on the house floor.
    • The vaccine is diluted (approximately 1,000 doses per 1 liter of water) and sprayed evenly over the feed surface using a coarse spray.
    • The reservoir must be agitated regularly to prevent oocysts from settling.
  • Drinking Water: Administered from three days of age.
    • Water is typically withheld for 2–4 hours before vaccination to ensure birds are thirsty.
    • A xanthan gum suspension (e.g., 5g per 3 liters for 1,000 doses) is used to help keep the vaccine oocysts in suspension within the drinkers.
