Neomycin 20% Oral Solution

Neomycin oral solution is indicated for the treatment and control of colibacillosis (bacterial enteritis) caused by Escherichia coli in cattle, swine, sheep and goats. A WOAH, CODEX and WVA Veterinary Medicine.

Neomycin oral solution is indicated for treatment and control bacterial enteritis in livestock and poultry.

INDICATIONS

  • Bacterial Enteritis (Scours): Used for the treatment and control of enteritis caused by susceptible Escherichia coli (E. coli) in cattle (excluding veal calves), swine, sheep, and goats.
  • Colibacillosis: Indicated specifically for colibacillosis infections in cattle, swine, sheep, and goats.
  • Turkeys: Used for the control of mortality associated with E. coli organisms in growing turkeys.
  • Hepatic Encephalopathy (Off-label): Occasionally prescribed off-label for dogs, cats, and horses to reduce ammonia-producing bacteria in the gut, which helps manage liver-related brain dysfunction.
  • Pre-surgical Prophylaxis: May be administered before gastrointestinal surgery to reduce the bacterial population in the intestines and prevent post-operative infection. 

ADMINISTRATION

  • Herd/Flock Treatment (via drinking water): For treating a group of animals, the prescribed amount of Neomycin solution is added to the total amount of fresh drinking water estimated to be consumed in a 12 to 24-hour period.
    • Medicated water should be the sole source of water for the animals during the treatment period.
    • Fresh medicated water must be prepared each day.
    • This method is suitable when all animals are drinking and eating normally.
  • Individual Animal Treatment (via drench): For a single animal or animals that are not drinking or eating, the solution is administered orally as a drench (directly into the mouth using a dosing syringe or a similar device).
    • The solution may be given undiluted or mixed with a small amount of water or milk.
    • The total daily dose is typically divided and given in separate doses throughout the day.
