Shanghai Pemichem Estradiol-17beta is indicated for growth promotion in livestock.

INDICATIONS

  • Estrus Synchronization (Cattle): Used to synchronize the estrous cycle in cattle, often in conjunction with progesterone, to facilitate artificial insemination.
  • Treatment of Anestrus: Used in female animals (such as mares) to stimulate behavioral estrus.
  • Mismating/”Mis-mate” Shot (Dogs): Historically used in bitches shortly after unwanted breeding to prevent pregnancy, although this use is now less common due to potential side effects like pyometra and bone marrow suppression.
  • Urinary Incontinence (Dogs): Used at low doses to treat hormone-responsive incontinence in spayed female dogs.
  • Growth Promotion (Livestock): Used as an ear-implant ingredient to increase the rate of weight gain and improve feed efficiency in cattle.
  • Induction of Lactation: Used in non-pregnant cows with reproductive failures to induce lactation.

ADMINISTRATION

1. Subcutaneous Injection (Oil-Based)
  • Method: The powder is dissolved in an oil-based vehicle (such as sesame oil) and injected subcutaneously.
  • Use: Often used for short-term studies or specifically designed pulsed administration to mimic natural hormonal fluctuations.
  • Duration: Oil-based injections allow slow absorption, but may require repeated handling to maintain stable levels.
2. Subcutaneous Implants (Ear or Neck)
  • Method: The powder is formulated into a small solid pellet or filled into silastic capsules and implanted subcutaneously, frequently at the back of the ear in cattle.
  • Use: Primarily used for long-term delivery to increase weight gain and improve feed efficiency in livestock.
  • Mechanism: These implants are designed for slow-release over an extended period.
3. Intramuscular Injection
  • Method: Dissolved in an oil-based carrier and injected directly into the muscle.
  • Use: Frequently used in equine medicine or to synchronize estrus in cattle.
