Bicozamycin feed mix is an antibiotic for pigs and poultry used to control specific bacterial diseases, improve feed efficiency, and promote growth,
INDICATIONS
- Calves and lambs: Treats bacterial scours.
- Pigs and calves: Can be used to treat diarrhea.
- Cattle and other livestock: Used to treat diseases like pneumonia, footrot, and joint-ill.
- Horses: Treats conditions like strangles.
How it works
- Bicozamycin is an antibiotic that works by disrupting bacterial protein production.
- It is a broad-spectrum antibiotic effective against Gram-negative bacteria and some Gram-positive bacteria.
- It is also known to be effective against certain strains of E. coli, including Shiga toxin-producing E. coli.
ADMINISTRATION
- Administration Method: The Bicozamycin is mixed directly into the animals’ complete feed ration at specific inclusion rates.
- Target Animals and Dosages: The approved amounts vary by animal and life stage, specified in grams (potency) per ton of feed:
- Broilers (meat chickens): 5 to 20 g/t during the starting and finishing periods.
- Pigs: 5 to 20 g/t for suckling piglets and piglets.
- Chickens (other than broilers): 10 g/t during the starting period.
- Purpose: It functions by acting on the bacterial cell wall synthesis mechanism, inhibiting protein synthesis. In many regions, the use of antibiotics in feed for general growth promotion has been restricted, shifting the use toward therapeutic or preventative measures under veterinary supervision to manage diagnosed disease risks.
