A WVA Veterinary Medicine.

is a live, freeze-dried vaccine indicated for the active immunization of poultry against the Avian Encephalomyelitis virus.

INDICATIONS

  • Target Species: Chickens (breeders and commercial layers).
  • Primary Purpose: Vaccination is indicated to prevent the clinical signs of AE, including tremors, ataxia, and neurological symptoms in young chicks.
  • Breeder Protection: It is used to vaccinate breeder flocks to prevent vertical transmission of the virus, thereby providing maternal immunity to progeny for the first few weeks of life.
  • Layer Protection: It is indicated to prevent drops in egg production in layer flocks caused by AE infection.

ADMINISTRATION

  • Wing-Web Stab Method (Recommended):
    • Preparation: The lyophilized (freeze-dried) vaccine is reconstituted with a sterile diluent, usually 10ml for 1000 doses.
    • Application: A double-needle applicator is dipped into the reconstituted vaccine and used to pierce the web of one wing, delivering @ 0.01 ml.
    • Precautions: Avoid large blood vessels, bones, and muscles. Vaccinate in the same wing for consistency.
  • Drinking Water Method:
    • The vaccine is mixed into clean, cool, chlorine-free drinking water.
    • Birds are typically deprived of water for 1–2 hours prior to vaccination to ensure they drink the mixture promptly.
